With the NFL Draft coming to Green Bay this April, Packers fans aren’t just hoping for a good pick, they want a moment. And lately, there’s one name heating up right now for that No. 23 spot: Trey Amos.
If you’ve been scrolling through Packers Twitter (or X, whatever), you’ve probably seen his name popping up more and more. And honestly? I’m a really big fan of him.
So, Who is Trey Amos?
Amos is a 6’1", 195-pound corner with 32-inch arms and 4.43 speed. He bounced around from Louisiana to Alabama and finally landed at Ole Miss, where he had a breakout year in 2024: 50 tackles, 3 picks, 13 pass breakups, and All-SEC honors.
He showed out at the Senior Bowl before a minor ankle tweak and then backed it up at the Combine.
The Packers Need a Corner. Bad.
Let’s be real for a second, the secondary has been shaky for awhile. Jaire Alexander’s status is up in the air, and both Eric Stokes and Corey Ballentine are gone. Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine play hard but don’t bring the size or lockdown ability the defense needs. And the new acquisition of Nate Hobbs is helpful but, they need someone with a higher ceiling.
Fans are sick of watching undersized corners get bullied by big receivers. Amos looks like the kind of guy who could come in and give some much-needed physicality on the outside. Jeff Hafley’s aggressive system could be a perfect fit for Amos’s skill set.
Not Everyone’s Sold
Of course, not every fan is all in. Some folks think he’s a bit raw in zone coverage, and a few are worried about whether he’s worth a first-round pick. Other fans pointed out that the 2024 season, he wasn’t exactly a full-time starter at Louisiana or Alabama, so some wonder if he’s got the reps to back up being a first rounder.
He Feels Like a Packers Pick
Let’s not ignore the obvious, Trey Amos checks a lot of Gutekunst boxes. Tall, long, and fast for his size. His experience under Nick Saban and Lane Kiffin add extra credibility. And with an RAS (Relative Athletic Score) of 8.88, he joins a long list of Packers picks who tested off the charts. (Some better than others….)
Bottom Line?
If the Packers decide to stay at pick No. 23 and go defense, Trey Amos feels like a very real and realistic option for them. He’s got the tools, the tape, and now, the hype from Packer fans. If his name is called on draft night in front of a home crowd, it might be the exact spark Packers fans are hoping for this offseason.
